Free training on Biosecurity and Crayfish Plague Awareness
What is Crayfish Plague? What can we do to stop its spread and protect native crayfish? Acquatic ecologists Ross Macklin and Bill Brazer, both of whom are keen anglers, have lined up a fun and informative day for lake users. This event is supported by NPWS through their National Biodiversity Action Plan Fund, Westmeath County Council, Local Authorities Water and Communities Office and Inland Fisheries Ireland.
Those who attend will receive Biosecurity certification
Topics include:
- Introduction to Crayfish Plague
- Implications of disease spread and its effect on native crayfish, fish & lake ecology etc.
- Biosecurity protocols for lake users
- Practical site visit to lake shore
