To all PPN Members

As spring moves into view, we move ever closer to Fleadh Cheoil Mullingar 2020 “The Homecoming”, hosted by Mullingar Comhaltas Branch, which will be held on August 2nd to August 9th 2020.

You’ll have seen signs around Mullingar advertising the Fleadh, demand for accommodation is at a premium and excitement is building as Mullingar prepares to host the world’s largest annual celebration of Irish music, language, song and dance with in the region of 500,000 visitors expected in Westmeath.

Could your group get involved? Yes!

We have a recruitment drive for individual volunteers underway, and we will need in the region of 1200 volunteers! As an individual you can register to volunteer online at https://fleadhcheoil.ie/volunteering/ .

But what about all of our groups? Wouldn’t it be great if our local community and voluntary groups came on board and volunteered! Whether you’re a resident’s association, a sporting club or interest group, you and your members can volunteer together during the week of the Fleadh. It might for one shift, or it might be for many shifts.

What should we do if we are interested? Well that’s easy!

  1. Discuss the Fleadh with your members and see if people would like to get involved as a group.
  2. If so, contact the Fleadh Office with your contact details. Mullingar Fleadh Office, Westmeath County Council, on 0449338954 or email info@fleadhcheoil.ie.

That’s it. We will follow up with a phone call and take it from there!

So, if you are discussing the Fleadh your members will likely want to know what they might be asked to do.

What would I be asked to do?

Volunteers will be asked to fill a number of roles, from street stewards, assisting at competitions, being part of our Green Fleadh by helping to keep our streets clean, Fleadh Ambassadors, volunteering at concerts, helping with social media, photography and many other roles.

The minimum commitment is 4 hours and shifts vary from 4 to 8 hours depending on the role, with shift hours throughout the day and night meaning there is a role and shift time to suit everyone. You can volunteer to just do one shift or as many as you like, its up to you. We will be grateful for whatever time you can spare to help.

Volunteers must be over 15. If a volunteer is under 18 parental consent will be required.

Will I get trained?

All volunteers will be asked to attend a mandatory training session in advance of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann which will be delivered from April onwards.
