Athlone Castle celebrated Bloomsday by having an exciting literary recital with several of Athlone’s well known writers, who read passages from some of James Joyce’s famous novels on June 16th.
On Sunday 16th June 2019, Athlone Castle will celebrate Bloomsday by having an exciting literary and musical recital in the Castle forecourt.
The worldwide festival celebrates June 16th 1904, the day depicted in Irish novelist and poet James Joyce’s novel Ulysses. James Joyce is Ireland’s greatest contemporary writer – a man who wrote works “to bestir the hearts of men and angels”
On that day we will celebrate Joyce’s Ulysses and other of his works, and walk with Leopold and Mollie Bloom on that one day 16th June 1904, through theatre, song, readings and writings.
Come along and join us at around 2:30pm, and you might even fancy wearing straw boaters, pinstripes, ruffles, petticoats or even round-rimmed spectacles.
