Volunteering with the Fleadh!

As we begin 2020 we also enter the year of Fleadh Cheoil Mullingar 2020 “The Homecoming”, hosted by Mullingar Comhaltas Branch, which will be held on August 2nd to August 9th

In March 2019 Mullingar was named as the host town for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2020. The event is the world’s largest annual celebration of Irish music, language, song and dance. It attracts in the region of 500,000 visitors to the host town every year. The announcement was received with excitement and jubilation by Comhaltas people and lovers of traditional culture in Co. Westmeath. The event is organised by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and will be hosted in Mullingar in conjunction with the local Fleadh Executive Committee and Westmeath County Council.

Would you like to be a part of the biggest event ever to come to Mullingar?

Volunteers have and always will be at the heart of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann and the involvement of volunteers is absolutely crucial to the events success. With over 500,000 visitors expected in Mullingar we will need the help of around 1,200 volunteers to ensure that the event runs smoothly!

By volunteering at the Fleadh you will be a part of ‘The Homecoming’ welcoming the Fleadh home to Mullingar where it all started many years ago. Participating as a volunteer will enable you to build new friendships, develop new skills and play an integral role in the success of the biggest festival of Irish culture in the world.

What would I be asked to do?

Volunteers will be asked to fill a number of roles, from street stewards, assisting at competitions, being part of our Green Fleadh by helping to keep our streets clean, Fleadh Ambassadors, volunteering at concerts, helping with social media, photography and many other roles.

The minimum commitment is 4 hours and shifts vary from 4 to 8 hours depending on the role, with shift hours throughout the day and night meaning there is a role and shift time to suit everyone. You can volunteer to just do one shift or as many as you like, its up to you. We will be grateful for whatever time you can spare to help.

Volunteers must be over 15. If a volunteer is under 18 parental consent will be required.

 Will I get trained?

All volunteers will be asked to attend a mandatory training session in advance of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann which will be delivered from April onwards.

 Where do I sign up?
