6) Less than 20% people who experience adult abuse report it

7) Greater Coordination Needed in the Independent Advocacy Sector

Sage Advocacy, the National Advocacy Service for Older People, in 2021 experienced a 7% increase in referrals over 2020 – a 13% increase in new cases opened and a 56% increase in information and support calls. ‘Desire to move residence’ and ‘Financial’ were the two most common primary reasons recorded in the almost 1,500 new cases opened during the year.

8) Report finds challenges to migrant integration at local authority level

More work could be done by local authorities to improve integration within staffing, diversity and corporate structures. That’s according to a new report by the Immigrant Council of Ireland at their Integrations Matters Conference in Limerick.

10) Barnardos Launches: “Working Together Online”

Barnardos children’s charity launched an evaluation of their work with children and families during the periods of restrictions and lockdowns of the Covid 19 pandemic. The evaluation was carried out with over 100 Barnardos children’s services staff, surveying 150 parents using our services, and interviewing five children.

11) Irish Heart Foundation: New National Stroke Strategy Welcomed

Welcoming its publication Mr Chris Macey, Director of Advocacy at the Irish Heart Foundation said that the full implementation of the new strategy would “save many lives, reduce the long-term disabling impact of stroke on many more survivors and will cut the long-term cost of stroke to the State, particularly by reducing the number of people requiring long-term care".

12) Evictions remain largest issue facing private renters as Threshold prevents over 1,000 households from becoming homeless in Q3 2022

Advisors in the national housing charity Threshold answered on average one call every 20 minutes from private renters facing eviction in the first nine months of the year, according to the charity’s Q3 Impact Report. The latest report details how an average of 472 private renters a month, who were facing eviction, sought assistance from Threshold between January and September of this year.

19) Irish Heart Foundation: First responders continued to save lives in 2021

In 2021 there were 2,906 cases of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests where resuscitation was attempted. Latest figures show that first responders defibrillated 198 patients who suffered an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest last year of whom 54 survived, highlighting the valuable life-saving work of these community groups.

41) Dublin Outreach

Dublin Outreach is an assertive street outreach service provided by Dublin Simon Community in partnership with the Dublin Region Homeless Executive. This service engages with adults who are rough sleeping, supports them into short term homeless accommodation, and makes appropriate referrals to permanent housing options especially Housing First.
