1) Lifelong learning opportunities may be “out of reach” for marginalised and vulnerable communities

Lone parents, people affected by addiction or imprisonment, people with disabilities, older adults and migrant women are among the marginalised and vulnerable communities that experience multi-layered and intersectional barriers to lifelong learning participation in Ireland. That’s according to new research launched by AONTAS, the National Adult Learning Organisation.

5) Global Action Plan: Climate Heroes challenge

11) Community neurorehabilitation teams urgently needed, warns Neurological Alliance of Ireland

18) SVP record calls for help shows need for more long-term Government action

A record 228,301 calls for help to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SVP) in 2022 and a further increase in January of this year already shows that targeted and permanent supports are needed for households in crisis. The 2022 figure represents a 19.5% increase on 2021 and already this year some SVP regions are experiencing a similar increase over the same period last year.

Irish Heart Foundation launches new F.A.S.T. Stroke awareness campaign. An Irish Heart Foundation analysis of HSE data shows just 60 per cent of patients got to hospital within the crucial 4.5-hour window for thrombolysis (medicine that dissolves the clot causing the stroke) in 2020 – compared to 73 per cent six years earlier.

The concepts for the songs were developed by the group during the Covid-19 pandemic where they met online and in parks to continue producing music. The songs are about the experiences of people living with mental health difficulties.

33) Concern Worldwide: Turkey-Syria Earthquake Emergency Appeal

Concern Worldwide is providing emergency supplies and shelter to those impacted by the two fatal earthquakes that struck Türkiye (Turkey) and Syria. Concern Worldwide is currently supplying blankets and heaters in Şanlıurfa, close to the epicentre of the earthquakes in southern Turkey, along with food and water. Concern is also opening community centres that are deemed safe, so families have somewhere to sleep. In northwest Syria, Concern is working with local partners to assess what response is needed.
