The team of researchers based at Dublin City University is working on the exciting EU-funded project FOSTERLANG , which aims at fostering linguistic diversity and the self-empowerment of language communities across Europe – Irish is one of the languages targeted by the project, with a view to supporting the Irish-speaking community.

In collaboration with other linguists, researchers, activists and language revitalization experts across Europe, It developed an online survey to collect fresh data on the use and social role of Irish today, also in relation to technologies, including AI.

The survey is completely anonymous, voluntary and free, and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete; the results will be disseminated and published only in aggregate form, and never individually.

We have two language versions of the online survey available, between which Irish speakers can choose:

In addition, we have prepared two short promotional videos to invite Irish speakers to complete the online survey for Irish – at the end they have a QR code that directs respondents directly to the above links:

The FOSTERLANG online survey for Irish has been launched recently, and will remain open until the end of June. We would be most grateful if you could please help us to circulate the survey among your contacts, e.g. through your website, social media, newsletters, etc., and encourage them to complete it, to help make sure that the voices of Irish speakers are heard.

We are attaching a document Publicity for FOSTERLANG survey in Ireland with the essential information, URLs and links to the digital materials that can be used to disseminate the online survey. Of course, we will be happy to share with you and anybody else who is interested the results of the FOSTERLANG survey for Irish and the other languages of Europe when they become available.
